A puppy sitting in an animal shelter smiles at everyone who passes by.
Every shelter dog has a unique story of how they ended up there.
A black lab from Louisiana is no different. The lab is named Burreaux, and he and his two siblings, Joe and O, were brought to the shelter together.
The names were given to them by Sarah Walton, a volunteer at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana.
It turns out, she is a huge fan of LSU football. She was also the one who went to pick up the three 8-week-old puppies from animal control and bring them back to the Humane Society.
It was a crucial moment for the puppies. Walton and the other volunteers knew that if they worked hard, they would be able to find them new homes.
While all of the puppies were beautiful, Walton noticed that Burreaux, in particular, stood out more than the rest of puppies in the litter.
She noticed that every time someone talked to him in a high-pitched voice, he would start smiling and showing off his teeth. The pup had the most adorable little grin that made him completely unique.
Walton elaborated more on the situation in an interview with The Dodo:
“It’s whenever you’re talking real sweet to him … he gets this smile like he wants something,” said Walton, “[It’s] like he’s telling you, ‘Come pet me, come love me.’”
Despite his smiling abilities though, Burreax’s brother, Joe, was adopted first. Joe was really good at playing fetch, a talent that quickly got him scooped up by a family.
“The entire litter was friendly and sweet and they like to play,” said Walton. “Burreaux and his sister are starting to learn fetch, too.”
Unfortunately, since Burreax’s fetching talent was still in the developing phase, the volunteers had to come up with a new angle to show the public why they should adopt him.
That’s when they remembered his lovely smile.
A video of Burreaux’s goofy grin was posted on the HSNL Facebook page and it instantly started drumming up a lot of attention.
“We were thinking, ‘Burreaux wants a home so bad that he’s always smiling, trying to cute it up,’” said Walton. “So we took that video and now it’s going viral.”
Just like a young toddler, Burreaux opens his mouth to show off his teeth when he is happy.
